Tiered Apple Pie Wedding Cake

Last weekend was my sisters wedding, a very lovely affair for which I made the wedding cake.
The bride and groom didn't want a traditional wedding party, they wanted a more informal celebration. As they both adore my apple pie I thought it would be a lovely idea to make them an apple pie wedding cake!

Initially I wanted to stack the cakes, but as the pies are very soft due to the fruit filling I didn't want to risk the wedding cake falling down mid party. So I diced to make a couple cake stands in different height so you still have the stacked cake feel but with way more stability.
Cake stands are very easy to make yourself, these are all plates and bowls found in Ikea and Hema.
Find a plate in the size of your pie, look for a cup/bowl/vase to match and glue them together. It is so easy and frugal I don't understand why anybody would pay big bucks for a ready made cake stand. And you can costumize the colours to fit your party!

Have a look at the end result

And how cute is the wedding topper!! I had it handmade by the lovely Molly Clark from Love Birds Goods, have a look at their website here. You give Molly all the details of the bride and grooms clothes, flowers, hair etc and she paints the topper to match. The cake topper comes with the banner and the stand, so sweet!

To match the cake topper and to give the pies a bit of decoration I made mini bunting out of yarn and washi tape, the colours of cource matching the theme of the wedding ;)
Just stick the tape to your yarn, press it tohether and cut into a bunting shape.

Okay slicing and dicing all the apples required for 6 apple pies was a bit of a job but I think it was well worth it!
