Movember

shot for Mama magazine by Malin Ngoie

During November each year, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces in the UK and around the world. The aim of which is to raise vital funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and testicular cancer.
It all started in Melbourne, Australia in 2003 with 30 men, last year 854.288 men across the world took part changing the face of men's health! (find more info on the movember website )
Mo Bro's must begin on the first on November with a clean shaven face and spend the entire month growing and grooming their stache. This is such a good initiative and can make us girls a bit jealous, luckily there are lots of moustache goodies on the market us Mo sista's can have a ball with.

HHH: Zpagetti Seat

Today In Hesters Homade Home: how to make a zpagetti stool.
I love the Zpagetti Yarn from Hooked, its made from jersey left overs from the clothing industry, cut to size and stitched together to make a long yarn. Every season there is a new range of colours and patterns. I love working with Zapgetti as you can knit and crochet with it, use it for bracelets our weave it into your furniture. Find more information on www.hooked.nl

I bought this tired looking stool on Ebay for a couple of pounds, cut the rope off and sanded the wood down. I then painted it white and weaved the Zpagetti yarn on.
First start with the long lenghts, wrap them around the frame and make sure they are nice and tight.
When you've done all the lenghts then start wrapping the yarn on the short ends.
I did a five over, five under pattern but you can do any weave you like.
When you finish weaving just make a knot in the yarn and you're done!!
It only took me 2,5 hours from start to finish, an easy craft for a rainy afternoon.

I did another Zagetti post a while bag, have a look here.

HesterHomemadeHome Jeans seat

It has been a little bit quiet on the blog, with battling a cold, lots of work and a new project there was little time for blogging. But I can reveal a little of that new project today...
There will be a new section on the blog, Hester's Homemade Home or H3 as I like to call it ;)
Over the next couple of months you will find projects on the blog you can easily make yourself, to give your home a little homemade unique touch.

The first post is a jeans seat for your bench!

Mister Kermit the Dog didn't want to move so he's on the pic as well! Unfortunately no tutorial for him ;)

It was time my Ikea bench got a new comfy cushion and as I'm very much into blue and whites at the moment a thought a jeans seat would really set the bench of.

I saved all my discarded jeans over the years as they work well for little projects, the stack came in very handy for this pillow!

I started with 3 foam squares glued together, you can also buy 'cut to order' foam but that is a more expensive, the gluing works fine as well. Cut the foam to the size of your bench.

For the fabric; You need 2 big pieces of fabric for the top and bottom bit of the seat and one long thin bit for the sides. Measure the size of your  seat and add 1 cm on each site, this is your seam allowance. Also measure the thickness of the foam, this is how wide the side bit will be and wrap your tape measure all the way around for the lenght of the sides, don't forget to add your seam allowance.
Now the fun bit, cut out bits from your jeans! I used the waist belt for the side of the seat and pocket and seam details for the main seat. Arrange your bits of jeans to fit the size of your seat, pin it and sew together. Make sure you have a jeans needle in your machine, a normal needle will break with the thickness of jeans. Also stitch the side pieces together to for one long thin strip.
Pin one side of the side piece to the top layer fabric, right side facing each other and stitch, leaving one short end open. Pin the other side of the side fabric to the other big piece and stitch together once again keep the same short side open.
Turn the case right side round and fill with the foam piece. Fold the edges of the open bit inside and hand stitch closed.
I added a red label and some red embroidery details for a pop of colour, embellish your seat the way you feel fit!
