Covers

As part of their Junior design awards, Junior magazine launched a best cover competition.
While flicking trough their website I found a lot of my own work.
See here the covers I've done for Junior magazine over the last 6 years.
24 covers in 6 years... that's 33% of the covers, not a bad stat!

Cath Kidston

If you look in the January edition of Cath Kidston magazine you might spot a familiar face.
There is a little picture of me on the contributors page, the Cath Kidston people sussed me right out and stuck me next to Bert&Ernie!
:)

Cath Kidston magazine comes out every month and besides showing their new products they also have  fashion stories (I often work on the kids fashion story)  craft articles and recipes.

I am loving these aprons!

Did you know..

Today I went to see the Clinique PR as they wanted to show me some new products, and I found out a very interesting fact.
Did you know Clinique does 9 different mascara's?
No me neither, no matter what eyelashes you want Clinique has a mascara for it.

They have the old time classic, high impact mascara for lush full lashes.
The natural glossy mascara in its stylish steel case for an everyday look.
Use the high impact curling wand for thicker, longer and curvier lashes.
My favourite, the high lengths mascara with its green applicator for long full lashes in one coat, the brush is very bendable so you coat every lash, even the small ones.
Then you have the lash doubling mascara witch gives you twice the volume and ads length and definition.
There is the high definition lashes witch has a brush applicator and a comb. You first apply the mascara with the brush for a great colour, then you comb them trough for definition.
The lash power mascara is a long wearing formula, this will last you a full 24hours even in the rain and gym! you remove this mascara simply by washing your face with warm water.
Clinique also does a lash primer, you can wear this clear product under your mascara to boost its longevity and add volume. Or where it on it own for a fresh look.
A new product in your mascara wardrobe is the bottom lash mascara, a great little product with a brush so small you can reach all those little lashes that are normally difficult to reach. No more panda eyes while trying to coat your lower lashes!
I hope this long list will help you next time you are wondering the beauty department for a new mascara!

A little history lesson
Did you know that mascara can be chased back all the way to ancient Egypt? There are records from around 4000BC showing that kohl was used to darken lashes to warden off evil spirits and protecting the soul, by both men and women.
The product that people would recognize as mascara today did not develop until the nineteenth century. A chemist named Eugene Rimmel developed a cosmetic using the newly invented petroleum jelly. The name Rimmel became synonymous with the substance and still translates to “mascara” in many languages.
Across the Atlantic Ocean and at roughly the same time, in 1913, a man named T. L. Williams created a remarkably similar substance for his sister Maybel. Later in 1917, T. L. Williams started a mail-order business from the product that grew to become the company Maybelline. The mascara developed by these two men consisted of petroleum jelly and coal in a set ratio. It was undeniably messy, and a better alternative was soon developed. A dampened brush was rubbed against a cake containing soap and black dye in equal proportions and applied to the lashes. Still it was extremely messy. No significant improvement occurred until 1957 with an innovation by Helena Rubenstein. She created a formula that evolved mascara from a hard cake into a lotion-based cream. She packaged the new mascara in a tube to be sold with a brush.

Think about that next time you apply your mascara!

I am very curious, do you have a favourite mascara? Do you prefer your lashes long, naturel or with lots of volume?
Let me know by dropping me a comment.

Nivea

I absolutely adore Nivea so when I was in Hamburg last week I of cource had to go to Nivea Haus, a stop I always make when I'm over there. Nivea Haus is a Nivea shop, cafe and spa. They have every Nivea product in their shop from skincare, to haircare, makeup and body products. If your lucky they might have a little gap in their spa schedule for you, unfortunately when I was there it was fully booked.
They have treatments like Knackfrisch (energy cocktail for your skin) Ach so! (intense treatment to fit your skin) Inseltraum (Hawaiian massage ritual) and  Orientalische versuchung (which involves a sea of foam, yum!)

I think everybody has grown up using Nivea's big blue jar, and i still think the plain moisturizer is one of the best. I use it for everything, hand creme, moisturizer, put a big layer on and its a face mask and if you run out of cleanser apply some cream and wipe it off with a tissue (but don't apply on your eyes)

A bit of history, a patent application was submitted in 1900 for an emulsifier called Eucerit (“beautiful wax”) and in 1911 chemist Isaac Lifschütz and his team used a water-in-oil emulsion with Eucerit as a basis for developing the world’s first refatting and moisturizing cream. Its white color is what gave the cream its name, which is derived from the Latin “nix, nivis” – snow.
By as early as 1914, NIVEA was already represented in 34 countries around the world and 42 percent of its sales were from abroad.
And they are still goingstrong, amazing!!

Hairstyling for horses

Sunday was my last day in Hamburg and photographer Tobias Staebler and I thought it was a good idea to do a fashion shoot with horses, outside, in the freezing cold.
A big bravo for our models Benedicta, Melina and Lottie for braving the chill to give us some amazing images.
Remember last week I was talking about new skills? What about horse hairdressing? That a good one for the cv!
To get the right feel for the shoot Tobias and I wanted to use horses with a long mane, unfortunately even in a stable with 80 horses we couldn't find one. So what to do? .... put hair extensions on!!
Have a look at the pictures below to see pony Bonito having his hair done by me :)
